INTASC Principle #2 - Learning Differences
The teacher uses understanding of individual differences and diverse cultures and communities to ensure inclusive learning environment that enable each learner to meet high standards.
During both of my student teaching placements I was required to prepare tiered lessons and activities which had leveled scaffolds to accommodate general education students in addition to those students who required learning supports. While working with my third graders I experimented with homogeneous and heterogeneous reading groups. I created unique reading guides which the students were asked to complete as they read. Several examples of these reading guides can be seen under the "snapshots" tab on the left. While teaching in a 5th grade co-teaching environment I often created assignments and assessments which fit the diverse needs of my class. The class included 30 students (15 regular education students and 15 students with IEPs for learning needs). I would be happy to share other examples upon request.
